'GRAFTING CULTURES' Sculpture by the Sea 2022 BONDI

Collaborative artwork between Australian artist Margaret Worth and Chinese artist Cui Yi. Based on concept of forests and gardens replaced by fabrications in steel and plastic.

In this time of rapid change in the Earth’s systems, an environment is envisaged of forms made from the materials that mark this era – plastic, steel and glass. As life forms are changed, parks and gardens are envisaged as areas that would be created with these materials.

Grafting Cultures is a sample showing a steel form with ‘blossoms’ of coloured plastic cups and bowls. The flowering ‘trees’ are attached by steel ‘roots’ to rocks. It is a sample for an installation that would be on the scale of a park with flower gardens.
