'Mile Posts' Adelaide Biennial 1992

'Con - struct', Sydney Perspecta, Adelaide Biennial, Experimental Art Foundation, early 1990s works

Faking materials to create 'New World' environments.

Mile Posts, 1992 Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art, Art Gallery South Australia.

These works play with block forms constructed in polystyrene and surfaced in ways that are self-consciously 'faked'. The finishes use paint as 'granite', 'stucco' as concrete, sand as ‘stone’, aluminium foil as ‘steel’ and green flocking as ‘vegetation’. The works respond to a culture that preferences manufactured materials and artificial effects. They reflect something that is disturbing as a perversion of heroic traditions.
